So today I broke the 60,000 word mark on my new WIP, Nightingale, and I’m a little over half way done with this one. I know, I know…it’s a McWhopper of a story, but I really feel it need it to do justice to this story and these characters. My previous books have been between 80 and 85 thousand words.
So my question for you readers out there is this…
Are you put off by a book that’s a bit longer than average? We aren’t talking War and Peace after all. Lol.
Personally I’ve never minded a longer story, but I’m really curious as to what you guys think.
I love longer books. A lot of time I feel that the book I’m reading is, if anything, too short. The general fiction books I read are all generally longer than lesfic books. I’d rather a long book that tells a complete story than a shorter book where I feel that the writer has stopped because a word count has been reached.
Thank you, Mary Anne, that helps a lot.
Longer books are great! I’m almost always sad when a book ends because I wanted just a little more!
Honestly, if the story is compelling, I much prefer longer. Especially true if I’ve gotten to know the characters. I’ve been told by many, that you write until the story is finished. My latest is over 100K. Tell the story you’re meant to.
